AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB TO HOST 10,000 SPECTATORS FOR TAB EVEREST
World’s richest race on turf will be Sydney’s first major post-lockdown event
October 11, 2021
The Australian Turf Club is today delighted to have received approval by the NSW Government to host up to 10,000 spectators for the world’s richest race on turf the $15 million TAB Everest at Royal Randwick this Saturday.
Following regular consultation with the NSW Government over several months and a proven track record of hosting COVID-Safe events, the Australian Turf Club will welcome ATC Members, owners and sponsors on course.
All spectators are required to pre-register for the event through the Australian Turf Club and follow NSW Government Public Health Orders.
All attendees will need to be fully vaccinated and demonstrate a digital or printed certificate to gain entry.
A range of spectator precincts across Royal Randwick’s vast open spaces will be set out across the racecourse to minimise movement between spectators.
Stringent racing industry bubbles separating all jockeys and trainers from spectator spaces will also be in place.
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley thanked the NSW Government for its support of racing and allowing spectators to Sydney’s first major event following lockdown.
“The Australian Turf Club has been working closely with the NSW Government throughout the pandemic and we are thrilled to be opening the gates to more people this Saturday,’’ Mr Barkley said.
“We ask spectators to ensure they can prove their vaccination status to avoid being turned away.
“We also ask people to arrive early and allow plenty of time for the entry process and to maximise the enjoyment of Everest Day.
“Sydney and our racing is back open for business during the $50 million Everest Carnival for a race and event being watched around the world.
“The Sydney Spring is ready to shine with spectators and the ATC is ready to a lead the way in a COVID-Safe reopening across the city.’’
