Australian Turf Club Pays Tribute To Former Director Bill Evans

The Australian Turf Club has paid tribute to highly-respected banking executive and former Director of the Club, Bill Evans, who passed away this week.

Mr Evans during a stellar business career was Chief Economist at Westpac in a 32-year stint at the bank, earning a reputation as one of Australia’s foremost financial forecasters.

He was a passionate Thoroughbred racing fan and served a full tenure of seven years on the Australian Turf Club Board from February 2014 to February 2021.

Mr Evans also served as Honorary Treasurer of the Australian Turf Club.

Australian Turf Club Chairman Tim Hale SC said Mr Evans was a dedicated servant and supporter of Sydney racing and the Club.

“Bill was a tremendous character and so highly regarded for his business and banking brain alongside his love of horse racing,’’ Mr Hale said.

“Before and after his stint as a Director, Bill was a regular attendee at our race meetings and always enjoyed the challenge of picking a winner.

“We give great thanks for his time as a Member and Director of the Club over several decades and send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues as we also celebrate his remarkable life.’’
