The Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW have this week completed another full year of Metropolitan racing across the 2025/26 racing year – hosting a total of 108 meetings at Sydney racecourses.

Amongst some of the key statistics for the season were:

  • Number of runners – 8796
  • Prizemoney – $213,876,650
  • Total number of owners attending meetings – 50,427
  • 114 Group races, comprising 31 Group 1s, 39 Group 2s and 44 Group 3s
  • Black type races – 157
  • Black type starters – 1665

Metropolitan premiership champions at ATC meetings were Rosehill Gardens-based trainer Chris Waller with 183 wins and prizemoney of $51,582,520, senior jockey title winner James McDonald with 91 wins and $27,004,320 in prizemoney and leading apprentice Siena Grima with 34 wins for total prizemoney of $3,639,700.

The three Metropolitan premiership winners will be part of a formal presentation at Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens meeting following the running of race 1.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Steve McMahon said Sydney offered some of the busiest and most competitive centres of anywhere in world racing.

“Like every punter, I’m always looking for the next good thing. The good news is Sydney racing keeps finding it,” Mr McMahon said.

“The 2025/26 season has seen another increase in total attendance across the year, the undoubted highlight a second consecutive sold-out TAB Everest Day at Royal Randwick.

“We thank all of the trainers, jockeys, stable and industry participants and especially the magnificent Thoroughbreds who make our racing so competitive and exciting all year round.

“We also thank all ATC Members, owners, punters and partners who attend and support all ATC race meetings 52 weeks a year.

“As we begin another busy racing season this Saturday, we look forward to continuing to improve all aspects of our race meetings and training centres with our partners and participants in innovating and leading in Australian racing.’’
