AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB AND DARLEY JOIN FOR PRESTIGIOUS PRINCESS SERIES
August 10, 2021
Australia’s best race series for three-year-old fillies starts at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 21 August under a continuing long-term partnership between the Australian Turf Club and Darley.
The prestigious four-leg Darley Princess Series at Royal Randwick in August, September and October is targeted by trainers and owners alike as they chase Group glory and a service to world-class stallions.
Darley will offer the breeder of the winner from each leg of the series a service to its leading stallions, giving trainers an extra incentive to target each leg.
The Darley Princess Series at Royal Randwick consists of:
• Group 2 $200,000 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m on Saturday 21 August;
• Group 2 $200,000 Darley Furious Stakes over 1200m on Saturday 4 September;
• Group 2 $200,000 Darley Tea Rose Stakes over 1400m on Saturday 18 September;
• Group 1 $750,000 Darley Flight Stakes over 1600m on Saturday 2 October. This is a $250,000 increase in prizemoney for this year’s race.
The winning breeder from the individual races will receive a 2021 or 2022 nomination to Darley stallions Earthlight (Silver Shadow Stakes), Ghaiyyath (Furious Stakes), Microphone (Tea Rose Stakes) and Blue Point (Flight Stakes).
As an added incentive, the overall winning filly of the series will earn a nomination to a stallion of choice on the Darley roster in the year she retires from racing (note – conditions apply*).
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said: “Darley as one of international racing’s largest and most successful racing and breeding operations is a key partner for Sydney’s growing Spring Racing Carnival.
“The Darley Princess Series features the best fillies from across Australia targeting these four historic Group races, culminating in the 75th running of the Group 1 Darley Flight Stakes.
“The Blacktype status coupled with the added benefit of services to world-class stallions makes it a compelling proposition to compete.’’
The series has been won by some champion fillies in recent years including Funstar, Alizee, Fiesta and last year’s series winner Dame Giselle.
Hungry Heart, a multiple Group 1 winner in Autumn, also featured prominently last Spring.
Managing Director of Godolphin Australia Vin Cox said: “Whether a trainer, owner or breeder, the Darley Princess Series at Royal Randwick rewards connections of the best three-year-old speed fillies.
“This year, Darley is rewarding the winning breeder of each leg a nomination to one of our champion racehorses: undefeated champion two-year-old Earthlight, the world’s highest-ranked racehorse for 2020, Ghaiyyath, champion two-year-old in Australia, Microphone, and to the only horse ever to win three Group 1 sprints at Royal Ascot, Blue Point.
“In addition, the filly who accumulates the most points across the Series receives a nomination to any Darley stallion on our roster the year she retires.
“Previous winners include Fiesta who was sold at auction for $1,350,000 this year and the nomination attached helped her promotion, she visits Exceed and Excel.
“Our long-standing partnership with the Australian Turf Club reiterates our commitment to breeders, owners and the thoroughbred industry.”
