As Australia continues to rebuild post COVID-19 crisis, the Australian Turf Club (ATC) has diligently forged ahead enabled by the unique position of being the only sport in Australasia to operate during the pandemic. This advantage now offers the ATC an unrivalled edge in a quick return to business.
Learnings from the 2007 Equine Influenza Outbreak along with current strict quarantine regulations for visiting international runners, enabled the thoroughbred industry to act swiftly and adopt strict bio security measurements which allowed the sport to stabilise and successfully operate spectator-less from 21 March to our return to spectators on 6 June.
Temperature checking of all visiting racecourse patrons and industry participants through hand held devices and state of-the-art thermographic temperature detection cameras, jockeys placed in small isolated groups on-course, and the practising of increased hygiene and safe social distancing according to NSW Government Health Orders are all contributing key factors to ensuring the utmost customer and racing participant safety.
From this Saturday, 20 June to celebrate Winter Dash Raceday at Royal Randwick, the ATC opens the doors to welcome back racegoers for a dining-only experience, following the safe success of hosting Owners and Members in a similar capacity across recent weeks at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.
In line with NSW Government Public Health Orders, the current raceday experience will look a little different than usual while still offering top-class racing, unsurpassed service and that unmistakable sense of occasion to celebrate with friends or family.
Corina Black EGM Commercial said, “We are delighted to welcome back racegoers this weekend who have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to return and to enjoy all the excitement of a live raceday experience.
“We will continue to develop new products that adapt to the changing times so that our valued guests can return in the comfort of knowing that they are in safe hands.”
