Hall of Fame jockey Jimmy Cassidy will host a special charity function at Royal Randwick this Saturday as the Australian Turf Club holds the annual Can Assist City Meets Country raceday.
Jimmy “Pumper’’ Cassidy will be joined by former Australian Olympian canoeist Martin Ralph as they help to raise awareness and funds for Can Assist, an organisation which helps people living in rural areas receive access to cancer treatment.
A free petting zoo for families and children will be set up on the Octagonal Lawn to add to the rural flavor on Saturday.
General admission customers can buy five entry tickets to Royal Randwick this Saturday for just $40 by booking online at theatc.com.au
The Australian Turf Club is also offering a pro rata discount on full ATC Membership for the remainder of the calendar year.
Can Assist provides accommodation and financial assistance to people from rural and regional NSW.
Can Assist City meets Country Race Day and Board Director and Vice President of Can Assist Michael Jackson said the organisation helped to bridge a gap between country and city cancer patients.
“Saturday is an opportunity for corporate city people to meet up with corporate country folk of all different backgrounds and help raise awareness of Can Assist’s support of country people with cancer.
“Can Assist operates 52 branches in rural and regional NSW to support country families.”
Royal Randwick Racecourse Manager Nevesh Ramdhani said the course proper was rated a heavy 9 on Thursday morning but a favorable weather forecast with no rain expected over coming days would see the track continue to improve.
A video with Nevesh including the forecast weather and track condition can be seen on ATCTV.
Saturday’s nine-race card includes the $100,000 Can Assist Winter Dash in which Sir Bacchus for champion Sydney Trainer Chris Waller and jockey Glyn Schofield, and Tessera, trained by Darren Beadman at Godolphin and ridden by Benton Avdulla, are joint $3.60 TAB Fixed Odds favorites.
Tessera drops back in class from a Group Three race in Brisbane last start, and in six runs on soft and heavy tracks has won twice and been placed another two times.
Buses to Royal Randwick run from Central Station direct to the course, whilst free parking is available in the infield of the racecourse, via the High Street entry.
Royal Randwick has free high-capacity WiFi across the racecourse.
