A Spectacle On Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day
October 28, 2023
Day 7 of the Sydney Everest Carnival was a spectacle at Royal Randwick this afternoon.
Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day saw Kerrin McEvoy continue his dominance of The Invitation, where he took out the third edition of the race with Espiona. McEvoy now has three wins in the race and is the only jockey to have an Invitation on his CV.
It was the second leg of a double for McEvoy after he captured race four on the card with Pervade. Both wins were for trainer Chris Waller.
Godolphin and James Cummings captured the Group 1 on the card – the $2 million Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes thanks to Tom Kitten.
The son of Harry Angel went one better than his previous start in the Gloaming Stakes, breaking through for a well-deserved win after three straight placings.
Other highlights on the day included:
*Adam Hyeronimus capturing his third career Group 1 with Tom Kitten being a dominant victor of the $2 million Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes
*Tyler Schiller registering a treble with Zeyrek, Chrysaor and Gringotts. Zeyrek was successful for Team Hawkes in the Toyota Forklifts Craven Plate while Chrysaor caused a big boilver in the $1 million Cincotta Chemist Callandar-Presnell. Rounding out the afternoon was success in the final event (National Jockeys Trust Handicap) on Gringotts (Ciaron Maher & David Eustace)
*Mumbai Muse (Tommy Berry and Michael Freedman) breaking its maiden with a strong win the TAB Brian Crowley Stakes
*Rachel King taking the short way home in the second event on the card – the Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap – with Marnix and scoring at $41 on TAB Fixed Odds
*Chris Waller enjoying a day out with a winning treble (Pervade, Espiona, Chrysaor)
Attention for Day 8 of the Sydney Everest Carnival now switches to Rosehill Gardens next Saturday (4 November) for James Squire Golden Eagle Day.
