AUTUMN GLOW AND SHEZA ALIBI HEADLINE STAR-STUDDED WINX STAKES AT ROYAL RANDWICK

Fourteen of Australia’s best horses – including a stellar clash of superstar mares Autumn Glow and Sheza Alibi – are set to captivate Royal Randwick this Saturday in the first Group 1 of the season.

The Group 1 $1 million Winx Stakes has attracted its strongest line up in the race’s history.

Collectively, the field has won almost $60 million in career prizemoney, including a total of 28 Group 1 and 57 other Group races.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Steve McMahon said the clash of Autumn Glow and Sheza Alibi promised the start of a classic modern-day racing rivalry.

“Autumn Glow and Sheza Alibi are the new generation of superstar horses as we build a new generation of racing fans into the Sydney Everest Carnival,’’ Mr McMahon said.

“Punters around Australia, prepare yourselves. Two champions on one stage.

“$1 million prizemoney and one of the most anticipated showdowns we’ve seen in years.

“We are seeing unprecedented sales for the TAB Everest and Spring Carnival already – be there to see round one of Autumn Glow and Sheza Alibi and an early taste of a mega Carnival.’’

Autumn Glow for the champion Sydney trainer and jockey combination of Chris Waller and James McDonald opens the TAB Fixed Odds favourite at $1.90.

Sheza Alibi for renowned trainer Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman to be ridden by jockey Luke Nolen is at $2.80 TAB Fixed Odds.

Such is their dominance in betting, the next horse in TAB Fixed Odds betting is Beiwacht (Chris Waller/Nash Rawiller) at $19.

Saturday’s 10-race card includes four other Group races including the first leg of the Princess series – the Group 2 $300,000 HKJC World Pool Silver Shadow Stakes.

Agrarian Girl for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable opens at $3.90 TAB Fixed Odds with Tim Clark aboard ahead of Pembrey (Tony Gollan/James McDonald) at $5 TAB Fixed Odds.

Three other Group 3 races feature on Saturday – the $250,000 Hyland Race Colours Show County Quality, $250,000 Schweppes Toy Show Quality and $250,000 Gold Coast Turf Club Premier’s Cup.
