$2m Inglis Millennium Brings Extra Sparkle To Royal Randwick

The $2 million Inglis Millennium for two-year-olds holds centre stage at Royal Randwick on Saturday – continuing the Australian Turf Club’s long partnership with premier Thoroughbred auctioneer Inglis.

A capacity field of 16 runners and six emergencies have accepted in the feature with a percentage of prizemoney – equal to winning a Sydney Listed race – added to the winning horse’s qualifying prizemoney for the Group 1 $5 million TAB Golden Slipper.

The eighth running of the $2 million Inglis Millennium continues a series of pathway races towards the ultimate prize for two-year-olds – the TAB Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens on 21 March.

Saturday’s 10-race card with 153 entries also included the Listed $200,000 Darley Lonhro Plate – another lead in to the TAB Golden Slipper – and the Group 3 $250,000 Kia Ora Eskimo Prince Stakes.

Australian Turf Club Interim CEO Steve McMahon said Saturday’s card began several months of Group racing in Sydney.

“We are delighted to continue to our relationship with Inglis who are one of the racing’s industry most respected organisations,’’ Mr McMahon said.

“The Inglis Millennium continues to grow as a significant race heading towards the TAB Golden Slipper.

“Saturday’s program starts a long run of Group racing at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens as we head towards the official start of the Sydney Autumn Carnival.’’

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said: “”The Inglis Millennium has quickly developed into one of the most critical 2YO races in Sydney thanks to winners such as Castelvecchio, Profiteer and Learning To Fly from just seven editions of the race.

“The race also has a strong synergy with the Classic Yearling Sale – which begins at our Warwick Farm precinct Riverside Stables from 10am Sunday – with five of the seven Millennium winners being graduates of the Classic Sale.

“Saturday’s field is as strong as we have ever had and to have form lines from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and New Zealand – as well as many provincial regions – all coming together and I’m confident that several genuine Golden Slipper contenders will emerge from the race this year.

“The Inglis Pink Bonus Series is another exciting element of the Millennium and this year the connections of Lassified, Sheza Boom and Oh Yes She Did – and possibly second emergency Profitabelle, pending scratchings – will also be racing for up to $400,000 in Pink Bonus additional prizemoney.”

The opening TAB favourite in the $2 million Inglis Millennium is Plagiarism at $5 for jockey Tim Clark and trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, just ahead of the Fireball at $5.50 for champion trainer Chris Waller and jockey James McDonald.

Boom filly Tempted trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Chad Schofield opens a $1.70 TAB favourite in the Group 3 $250,000 Kia Ora Eskimo Prince Stakes.

She returns after a last start second to the world’s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising in the TAB Everest.

The Listed $200,000 Darley Lonhro Plate has attracted a field of 13 runners with another Ciaron Maher runner in Spicy Miss the early $2.90 TAB favourite with top jockey Zac Lloyd aboard.
