Yulong January Cup Marks A Return To Saturday Racing At Rosehill Gardens

14 January, 2026

Saturday racing returns to Rosehill Gardens this week with the running of the Listed $200,000 Yulong January Cup – the feature event on a ten-race card.

The meeting is the first at Rosehill Gardens in six weeks following the rescheduled Sunday 7 December meeting, in a period which has allowed a major renovation of the course proper surface.

Opening early equal favourites at $3.60 TAB Fixed Odds  in the Yulong January Cup are Unspoken for trainer Peter Snowden and jockey Chad Schofield along with Imperialist for the Chris Waller and Sam Clipperton combination.

Next in betting at $6 TAB is Bella Montagna, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and with Jett Stanley aboard, who also won the race in 2024.

Saturday’s card has attracted a total of 135 acceptances with full fields available here and full TAB markets for all 10 races here.

Australian Turf Club General Manager of Racecourses Michael Wood said the Rosehill Gardens track had undergone an extensive renovation since its last meeting.

“The Rosehill Gardens surface has come through in super order after its major renovation over the past six weeks,’’ Mr Wood said.

“The entire circuit was significantly mowed and then scarified before being cored, swept and top dressed with 550 tonnes of washed sand.

“This removes organic matter and significantly improves moisture movement capability, bringing with it a fresh coverage of grass and uniformity.’’

Saturday also sees the continuation of the Australian Turf Club’s Summer Long Lunch offer at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick over the following weeks.

Details are available and bookings can be made here.
