Sydney’s Most Unmissable Celebration Returns: Sydney Everest Carnival 2025

Sydney’s most iconic racing and social event, the Sydney Everest Carnival, returns from Saturday 20 September to Saturday 8 November, bringing together the best in racing, fashion, dining and entertainment across Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.

To celebrate the upcoming Carnival, former jockey Katelyn McDonald (née Mallyon) took part in a dramatic photoshoot beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge, riding a rearing 17-year-old Thoroughbred named Bold Don, affectionately known as Mr Bean. Now a stunt horse, Mr Bean reared on command, capturing the power and elegance of racing in a single breathtaking moment.

“The build-up to the Everest is like no other”, said Katelyn. “It’s so iconic now, everyone sings the song on the way to the barriers. The atmosphere is electric. You have to get in fast because tickets sell out every year.”

Among the stars of the season is Ka Ying Rising, a horse Katelyn McDonald is especially excited to see.

“He is a speed machine”, she said. “Every time this horse steps out he breaks records – and he’s not even asked. To see him here on the big day is going to be so, so special.”
