352 Horses Still In The Running For Landmark 70th TAB Golden Slipper

A total of 352 horses from 67 stables are second acceptors for the Group 1 $5 million TAB Golden Slipper as Sydney’s iconic race heads towards its 70th edition.
Amongst the group are 172 colts and geldings and 180 fillies aiming for the race at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 21 March, one of five Group 1 races on the day, the most on any Australian raceday.
Sydney’s 15-time premiership champion Chris Waller has 45 horses as second acceptors as he bids to win a second TAB Golden Slipper on his home track.
Trainers with other high numbers include Ciaron Maher 27; Annabel & Rob Archibald 26; Ben, Will & JD Hayes 21; Anthony & Sam Freedman 17 and Michael Freedman 17.
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have 16 horses still nominated as the record-holding Gai aims for a ninth win in the race and a third with her training partner.
There are 81 sires represented in the second nominations with the highest number by I Am Invincible (30).
He is followed by: Home Affairs 24; Snitzel 23; Wootton Bassett 17; Zoustar 16; Farnan 13; Stay Inside 13; Written Tycoon 13 and Ole Kirk 11.
203 horses are domiciled in NSW followed by Victoria 134; Queensland 11, New Zealand 2; South Australia 1 and Western Australia 1.
Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said the 352 horses was an almost five per cent increase on last year’s figures.
“No race matches the TAB Golden Slipper in influencing the Australian racing and breeding industry and we are excited to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year,’’ Mr Ramdhani said.
“The owners, trainers and connections of 352 horses are still living the dream of taking out the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.
“The Australian Turf Club looks forward over the coming weeks and months to hosting a number of pathway and qualifying races at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick as we head towards Australia’s biggest day of Group 1 racing on 21 March.’’
