Sydney’s premier summer racing event, the $2 million Group 2 The Ingham, returns to Royal Randwick this Saturday 13 December, uniting world-class racing with world-changing medical research.
Now in its fourth year, The Ingham continues to honour global racing icons Mr Bob Ingham AO and Mr Jack Ingham AO, whose legacy of excellence and philanthropy lives on through this special partnership between the Australian Turf Club and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research.
This year, the raceday aims to help reach an ambitious $300,000 fundraising goal, with all proceeds supporting pioneering cardiovascular research that has the potential to transform outcomes for more than 60,000 Australians living with heart disease.
Strong Fields and Feature Racing Across a Ten-Race Card
The $2 million The Ingham has again drawn a capacity field of 20 runners plus four emergencies, headlined by dual Big Dance winner Gringotts, who carries topweight for Ciaron Maher and Nash Rawiller. The gelding has been installed as the $4.40 TAB favourite.
Close in betting is the in-form Sabaj from the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr yard at $5.50 with TAB, with Beau Mertens retaining the ride following a strong last-start victory.
Defending champion Robusto will attempt to become the first horse since 1930 to win consecutive editions of The Ingham. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding steps out this year with Ash Morgan booked to ride.
Festival Stakes winner Yorkshire continues his rise for trainers John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, who have again engaged jockey Zac Lloyd, who has proven affinity for the gelding, as they target another significant 1600m success.
The Listed $500,000 Inglis Nursery will once again showcase the best of Australia’s emerging two-year-old talent. Last year’s winner Within The Law went on to claim the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes, underscoring the race’s reputation as a launching pad for elite juveniles.
This year, Elio for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott has opened favourite at $3.40 TAB, ridden by Adam Hyeronimus. The highly regarded colt Vatican, by Wootton Bassett, debuts for Chris Waller, with Tommy Berry aboard at $6 TAB.
Saturday’s program also includes two additional Black Type features — the Listed $200,000 Coolmore Spelling @ Mount White Razor Sharp and the Listed $200,000 Mending Broken Hearts Christmas Cup — rounding out a high-quality summer racing lineup.
