The Sydney Everest Carnival gets underway at Royal Randwick on Saturday for Sydney Surf To Turf Day.
Here are 10 unmissable highlights not to miss when you’re trackside. Gates open at 10:30am for members and 10:45am for all other guests. The opening race will commence at 11:50am.
Look out for the new Daktronics LED Super Screen boasting over 400 square meters of high-definition viewing area. It will feature brand new and bespoke graphic elements, focusing on innovative wagering and race information, up-to-date weather and track details, social media feeds, and captivating animated content.
Don’t forget to wear a splash of red on Sydney Surf To Turf Day and head to the Theatre of the Horse for the After The Last performance from Hot Dub Time Machine.
1. James Squire House
Head to the brand new, double-story James Squire House next to QEII Stand. You won’t be able to miss it! It’s the perfect place to grab a beer whilst watching all the racing action. Enjoy a James Squire Lashes by using the express queue!
2. Glam up at the Pamper Pavilion
Indulge yourself at the Pamper Pavilion, the ultimate fashion and beauty destination to ensure you feel your best all day long. You will be spoilt for choice as skilled stylists await to perfect your hair and make up and talented fashion illustrators stand ready to sketch your race day look, all while finding yourself surrounded by captivating photo opportunities.
3. The TAB Everest lead-up – 4pm
The $1million Toyota Forklifts Shorts (1100 metres) is a vital lead-up to the TAB Everest on 14 October. It will be the first appearance this time in for confirmed TAB Everest runner Mazu while there are several hopefuls lining up hoping to attract the eye of slotholders that are yet to secure their horses for the big race. TAB Fixed Odds has Godolphin runner In Secret as $2.90 favourite in front of Remarque, Overpass and Buenos Noches. Redzel (2017) is the only horse to have won The Shorts and TAB Everest in the same year.
4. Third leg of the Darley Princess Series – 2.50pm
The Darley Tea Rose Stakes has attracted a big field of 16 runners for the third leg of the Princess Series, which is proudly sponsored by Darley. Autumn Ballet and Tiz Invincible took out the first two legs and are lining up here.
5. A new $1million race – the 7 Stakes @ 3:25pm
The inaugural running of the $1million 7 Stakes has attracted an outstanding field of 12 runners, headlined by Group 1 winners!
Think It Over, Zaaki, Fangirl, Arapaho, Hinged and Fireburn bring a classy element to the new feature race while Pericles is the current favourite for the TAB Epsom in a fortnight.
6. Meet and Greet with Eduardo – 2.30pm-3.30pm
Recently retired star galloper Eduardo will be at Royal Randwick from 2.30pm on Saturday in the day stalls, opposite the WINX Stand. The 10YO who had 12 victories in his career will lead the Toyota Forklifts Shorts field out. Fans can come and visit and grab a selfie and even have a pat.
7. Equine performance – 1.45pm
Ahead of the $1million Equimillion an equestrian event for retired Thoroughbred racehorses across disciplines of eventing, Jumping, Dressage and Show horse, there will be a special demonstration oncourse. Look out for it on the track from 1.45pm. A Racing NSW initative, Equimillion will showcase the versatility and suitability of Thoroughbreds for careers outside of racing, with the inaugural event to be held on the October long weekend in 2023.
8. Check out the world-class WINX Stand
The impressive WINX Stand named after the legendary mare is open to all racegoers to enjoy. The ground floor will feature DJ and food outlets which opens up on to the Leger lawn to get close to the racing action. Upstairs in The Gallery North Room will feature a sports bar with bespoke food offering and betting activation. While The Gallery South has DJs with cocktails and tapas. The open terrace is also home to the Happy Clapper Bar which has one of the best views on track. Plus, there’s plenty of things to cool you down including free gelato, sunscreen and hand-held fans brought to you by Grainshaker Vodka.
9. Indulge in raceday fare
There’s a plethora of food & beverage outlets this into Spring. Members can head to the ATC Smokehouse for signature wagyu beef brisket, Texas brisket sandwich or Beef brisket plate. There’s also a number of other options for members and general admission patrons including Destination Chandon, Malt Shovel Taphouse, Grainshaker Vodka bar and the Candian Club Bar just to name a few. Also check out the divine handmade Espresso Martini from the iconic Mr Black Airstream Van.
10. Dance to the beats of Hot Dub Time Machine – 5:25pm
The highly popular ‘After The Last’ series returns and Hot Dub Time Machine is back, so you can guarantee this will be one big party as racegoers dance through the decades. The Australian DJ, showcases songs from every decade and genre of music, and has been welcomed by international audiences with open arms.
