$1 MILLION BONUS FOR KEY RACES ON PATH TO $5 MILLION LONGINES GOLDEN SLIPPER

December 27, 2021

The Australian Turf Club has today announced increased incentives for pathway races to the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper, further enhancing the world’s richest race for two-year-old horses.

All horses competing in Sydney’s Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper in 2022 will be eligible for a $1 million bonus from the Australian Turf Club.

To receive the bonus, a horse must win any two of five nominated pathway races as well as winning the ultimate prize – the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens.

The nominated races for the bonus in 2022 are:

The $1 million bonus from the Australian Turf Club takes potential total prizemoney to $6 million following a $1.5 million increase in Longines Golden Slipper prizemoney announced by Racing NSW in November.

The increases make the Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper – to be run at Rosehill Gardens on 19 March 2022 – Sydney’s richest Autumn race.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said the bonus further incentivised connections to compete in the world’s strongest racing program for two-year-olds.

“The prizemoney increase and $1 million bonus incentive places the Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper on its deserved pedestal in the Sydney Autumn as an iconic world racing event,’’ Mr Ross said.

“All five races in the bonus program are Group 2 events and collectively have proven to produce a higher number of Longines Golden Slipper winners in the famous race’s history.

“This $1 million bonus is both aspirational and achievable as in the past 10 years star colts such as Pierro and Farnan would have taken out the bonus.

“The Australian Turf Club in partnership with Racing NSW is delighted to have further elevated the Longines Golden Slipper as the race that shapes the Australian racing industry like no other.’’
